Diopside is the magnesium-bearing end member in the
isomorphous diopside–hedenbergite series. Coloured by the addition of chromium. This sphere comes from rough found in a calc-silicate lens containing
massive diopside probably formed during high-grade
amphibolite facies metamorphism.
